MANCHESTER CITY have made a £50million bid for Wolves star Matheus Nunes.

City boss Pep Guardiola wants to sign the 24-year-old Portuguese midfielder following the collapse of an £85m swoop for West Ham’s Brazilian playmaker Lucas Paqueta.

But Wolves value Nunes at £70m and are determined to hang on to him.

Guardiola labelled Nunes “one of the best players in the world” after City’s 5-0 Champions League win over Sporting Lisbon 18 months ago.

Wolves then signed him from Sporting in a £42.2m deal last summer.

Additionally, Man City’s attempt to sign Paqueta fell through last week when the midfielder became the focus of an FA investigation into shady wagers made on the Brazilian to be cautioned in several Premier League games.

Eberechi Eze, a star for Crystal Palace, is also being watched by Man City, although the Selhurst Park club values the offensive midfielder at £70 million.

Bernardo Silva, meanwhile, has pledged his future to the Treble champions after agreeing to a new contract that runs through 2026.
