Manchester City Bournemouth :City player ratings as City

Prior to their Champions League group stage match against Young Boys, Man City benefits greatly from this outcome as it propels them to the top of the rankings.

Manchester City vs Bournemouth player ratings

Ederson (5/10)

Displayed superb passing as usual, with a number of fizzed passes along the deck. The keeper didn't have many saves to make and could do nothing about Sinisterra's goal.

A spectator for most of the match, but was well beaten by Luis Sinisterra.

Kyle Walker (6/10)

Pushed up higher than usual and provided a real out ball for City. His rapid responses at the back also quelled a few tentative Bournemouth attacks in the first half.

Pushed high to offer support on the wings and followed up well but it didn’t look good for Bournemouth’s goal.

Manuel Akanji (7/10)

Defended well and advanced several times with the ball from the back.

Lucky I got on the scoresheet as the ball just bounced off his back. He didn’t have much defending to do – he was more of a supporting presence further down the field.

John Stones (6/10)

Perfect passing speed and good midfield backup.

Nathan Ake (7/10)

Pushed inside when City had the ball and tended to avail of the easy pass to Doku, rather than attempting anything too complicated. Most of Bournemouth's attacks did come down Ake's goal, though, and the ex-Bournemouth man grabbed a late sixth at the end.

His passing was sound, he made one or two good defensive saves and then headed a great six.

Rodri (7/10)

As always, the Spaniard moved the ball well and rarely misplaced a pass.

Well tied things together acting as support for attack and key to building. He played a great number one with Doku for the opener.

Mateo Kovacic (5/10)

Provided real energy in the middle and carried the ball forward on numerous occasions, especially in the latter stages of the game.

Had a close range shot as the last kick of the ball and otherwise pretty quiet.

Julian Alvarez (7/10)

Started as a no.10 but pushed into a centre-forward position once Haaland was replaced at the break. Bournemouth struggled to stop Alvarez's runs from deep in the opening 45 minutes.

He was all over the attack and set up Haaland well with a cross and then a through ball. Always smart on the ball in tight and dangerous areas.

Bernardo Silva (8/10)

Another excellent showing from Silva, who scored City's second and set up the third. The Portugal international linked well with Walker down the right, but also moved inside and helped City control the game.

An excellent shot from outside went just wide, but he found space for the second goal and was of good quality.

Erling Haaland (4/10)

Erling Haaland injury: Man City suffer huge scare as striker limps out of Bournemouth clash

Ruined one excellent chance as he was found in plenty of space but too many touches – summed up his day. Off at half time.

What an amazing show! They made the quick burst they needed to open the scoring, fancy footwork for the second, crushed Akanji for the first, pulled Foden for number fou

Substitute

Phil Foden (7.5/10)

Linked well with City team-mates and his ability to take the ball on the turn launched several attacks.

Entered the field in the 46th minute to replace Haaland, scoring the fourth goal in the 65th minute.

Rico Lewis (N/A)

Entered the field in the 71st minute to replace John Stones.

Matheus Nunes (N/A)

Entered the field in the 71st minute to replace Julian Alvarez.
