John Cena facing The Rock, another WWE legend, and major rising star is possible, says analyst, before retiring

John Cena has announced that he will retire from WWE in-ring competition in 2025. A WWE Analyst thinks the Leader of the Cenation could square off against three top superstars, including The Rock, before hanging up his boots.

The 16-time world champion had a heated feud with The Rock over a decade ago. While The Final Boss defeated Cena at WrestleMania 28, the latter won the rematch at the following Show of Shows. The two recently had a confrontation at WrestleMania XL, which ended with the Leader of the Cenation receiving a Rock Bottom. On his Notsam Wrestling podcast, WWE Analyst Sam Roberts suggested the two could clash again before Cena retires.

Roberts also claimed the 47-year-old could also fight CM Punk, with whom he had another heated rivalry in 2011, and The Ring General Gunther, who is considered one of the biggest rising stars in the company:

“We could do another Cena/Rock. We could do another Cena/Punk. We could do Cena/Gunther,” he said. [24:55 – 24:58]

After making his stunning announcement at Money in the Bank last night, John Cena attended the Money in the Bank press conference to provide more details about his next steps.

When asked whether he could clash with The Rock again before hanging up his boots, the 16-time world champion claimed he was in no position to hand-pick his opponents:

“Great question. Umm, there’s always unfinished business in the WWE, which probably makes this announcement extremely surprising cause I’m trying to close up shop here. I don’t and have never put much stock in expectations that are beyond my control and I’ve tried to lead in existence where I can control what I can. And I am in no position to hand-pick opponents. I’ve always had a wonderful time challenging myself, telling stories with whatever hand I was dealt. So I think that’s part of the allure and part of the excitement of what we’re about to embark on is stories we can’t tell and hopefully who’s gonna show up. We’ll see,” he said.

The Rock returned to the ring for the first time in eight years this past April at WrestleMania XL. It will be interesting to see if The Final Boss and John Cena cross paths again in the upcoming months.
