Hugh Jackman makes his MCU debut this July at the age of 55 as Wolverine in Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool & Wolverine. He committed to his superhero body once again for the role. It was not an easy task, considering he was 25 years older than when he first got the part in Bryan Singer‘s X-Men. Jackman found the perfect trainer to cater to his needs while also considering his age.

Beth Lewis, a New York-based strength trainer, helped The Wolverine actor get in shape for his much-anticipated role in the upcoming film. Jackman shared a Throwback video to his Instagram and Twitter accounts recently, where he gave a shoutout to Lewis for being by his side throughout the intense transformation.

In the video, Lewis can be seen encouraging Jackman as he is doing a set of barbell curls to build his biceps. The Prestige actor also mentioned the support of Lewis’ trusted partner Andy, a French bulldog. Andy can also be seen in the video, cheering for Jackman just like his dog parent.

Hugh Jackman gave his fans a glimpse of the sacrifice it took to get himself ready for the role. In another Instagram post after wrapping the filming of Deadpool & Wolverine, Jackman revealed that he underwent 4 a.m. training every day at the gym. As for the food, he enjoyed mostly steamed fish and vegetables for his four times-a-day meal, which reportedly packed 8000 calories.

SUGGESTED

He shared that he followed the routine continuously for six months, to say the least. Jackman shared on Instagram:

“What a ride! I’ve loved every minute of making this movie. Well … not the 4a training or the steamed fish and veg 4 x a day for 6 months but the other 93.2%.”

About his character in the film, Jackman shared that this iteration of Wolverine was going to be a lot angrier and grumpier than his recent Wolverine appearances.

Beth Lewis is a former professional dancer who later dropped Broadway to dive into health and fitness. According to her profile on peterattiamd.com, she grew up in Georgia, where she excelled as a gymnast, swimmer, dancer, soccer player, and martial artist. She has devised multiple training systems based on a variety of training disciplines, including Functional Range Conditioning, Postural Restoration, and Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization.

SUGGESTED

Her methods as a strength coach are rather non-traditional, which have certainly produced great results. For Hugh Jackman, she came up with regular bicep curls and deadlifts for him to gain muscles. Jackman also used the rowing machine as his cardio workout, which also helped him to keep his body fat down.
