CM Punk and The Rock didn’t get to have a long feud, but they did square off against each other twice. The two men first went one-on-one at the 2013 Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Sadly, that encounter saw the Straight Edge Superstar lose his WWE Championship. After that, he challenged the Brahma Bull at that year’s Elimination Chamber which he lost as well. Despite being a short storyline, that was a dream feud as far as fans are concerned.
The Straight Edge Superstar has had a frosty relationship with The Rock, at least on screen. In fact, during his pipebomb promo, he called The Great One an a** licker who had made his way to the top by being Mr. McMahon’s yes man.
CM Punk, very publicly, has also expressed his displeasure with The Rock main eventing WrestleMania twice despite being a part timer.
During his interview at Starrcast in 2021, CM Punk talked about his 2013 in-ring rivalry with The Rock. The Straight Edge Superstar shared what it was like working with the Hollywood Megastar.
CM Punk shared the meeting he had with The Rock at the latter’s hotel room
According to CM Punk, he had a meeting with The Rock before their feud kickstarted. He was requested to meet The Great One at his hotel room to discuss what to say on Monday Night Raw. Punk stated when he saw Rock, his assistant, Brian Gewirtz, and two other people in the room, he felt outnumbered.
He recalled being shocked to see somebody coming and handing him his promo. But anyway, CM Punk and The Rock started talking, which the former noted was a Hollywood kind of setting.
“I remember somebody I didn’t know from his team walking up to me and handing me my promo, and I feel like it was a Hollywood kind of setting, like they were doing a table read. This is how this dude operates, but this is me, and this is how I operate,” CM Punk said.
Both men discussed their working styles and sorted out a way. As per Punk, having a one-on-one conversation with the Hollywood megastar in a crowded room was uncomfortable.
However, they pushed things aside and found a common ground to work together. CM Punk felt The Rock respected the fact he was not backing down from expressing his opinions.
“Me and him had kind of a one-on-one conversation in a crowded room, which is f*ckin’ uncomfortable,” Punk revealed. “I think he respected the fact that I wasn’t backing down, I wasn’t refusing to do anything, but just like, ‘Hey, could we maybe do this a different way?’ He was great, and he was fun to work with, and I liked working with him.”
All in all, The Straight Edge Superstar liked working with The Great One. He also recalled apologizing to The Rock later for his conduct during their first meeting.
The Straight Edge Superstar, with his recent act, fired up the rumors of a WWE return in the future
This week’s Monday Night RAW had a special guest backstage, and it was none other than CM Punk. The episode took place in Chicago, Illinois, which is the hometown of the suspended AEW superstar. According to reports, Punk met people like The Miz, and Tamina, and even had a brief chat with Triple H.
However, following the orders of Vince McMahon, he was asked to leave the arena. It was reported that CM Punk said his goodbyes and left the place without any bad taste.
Nevertheless, Punk’s backstage surprise, in no way, means he is coming back to WWE. Right Now, he is still signed with AEW, but the recent incident has made many believe, a return in the future is possible.
