Sharing intense training sessions for his next The Smashing Machine, on social media, wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne Johnson, known by his stage name ‘The Rock’, said he is ‘grateful to grow’.
The former WWE athlete said would star in lead role of The Smashing Machine, based on the life of MMA fighter and UFC champion Mark Kerr.
The actor is currently attending a training camp to equip him with mixed martial arts moves.
The MMA film, which will be directed by Benny Safdie, will go on floors later this year.
Emily Blunt is in talks to play Kerr’s wife Dawn Staples, if she onboards she would be reuniting with her Jungle Cruise co-star. No matter how things go with The Smashing Machine‘s casting, the duo will join hands for the Disney film’s sequel, which is under development.
The Smashing Machine is set to chronicle the Mark Kerr’s story, his struggles with addiction, love, friendship, and of course MMA championship victories. Kerr has won above two dozen MMA titles, including a two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Championship and World Vale Tudo Championship.
Safdie, popular for directing Uncut Gems and Good Time, will write and direct the film. He will also produce the film under the Out for the Count banner alongside Eli Bush and David Koplan, with Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Production.
