Ethan Mbappe has revealed why he also left Paris Saint-Germain after his brother Kylian Mbappe’s exit.
Kylian Mbappe’s younger brother Ethan has now revealed the real reason he also left Paris Saint-Germain following his brother’s controversial exit from the French giants.
Mbappe’s recent exit from PSG in favour of a move to long-time admirers Real Madrid was rather unceremonious, and there were various reports suggesting tension between the player and the club’s president, Nasser El-Khelaifi.
This tension was confirmed by Mbappe after he left the Parc des Princes when he stated that he could have missed out on playing club football in the 2023/24 season were it not for the intervention of manager Luis Enrique and sporting advisor Luis Campos.
Moreover, there have since been suggestions that the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is suing PSG over a missing bonus payment and two months’ worth of unpaid wages.
When it was revealed that 25-year-old’s younger brother Ethan would also be severing ties with PSG, this raised a few questions in some quarters.
The 17-year-old decided not to renew his contract at the Parc des Prince, instead making the move to join Lille as a free agent on a contract until June 2027.
The central midfielder was unveiled by his new team on Thursday, and during the presentation, he revealed exactly why he walked away from Les Parisiens.
“I had to create my own path, my own story,” the teenager said, according to GetFrenchFootballNews.
“At PSG, I would have stayed in my brother’s shadow. I think LOSC is the right choice for that.”
“It’s complicated at the beginning because you always have to be good, people will criticise you and expect you to be like your brother, when that’s not the case.
“It’s a difficult name to live up to, but I manage it perfectly. I’m trying to write my story.”
