Charles Darmanjian’s 1947 Plymouth ~ Flat Black Rat

When one loses their job after nearly twenty years, it could be devastating to some. To Charles Darmanjian, it was an opportunity. He used it to start his own custom automotive part business — ESC Fabrications, LLC — On Facebook: ESC Garage

Charles has had a lifelong passion for cars and says that he felt “a sense of relief and shock” when his employer let him go.

He compared the way he felt to someone who’s just got out of jail and does not know how to “start their life again.” Although he’s nervous about the future of his new business, he’s happy.

Charles is a one-man-show in a small three-bay shop in North Troy, New York.

He primarily designs and fabricates parts for cars that are far from rat rods, e.g. his 2013 Subaru WRX, to which he credits the initial success of the business.

His project car is a 1947 Plymouth, a beast he’s brought together from the parts of a dozen cars. While his business caters to newer cars, Charles admits that it’s the classics he really enjoys working on.

This beauty packs a 413 Chrysler big block mated to a 727 transmission, backed up to an 8 3/4 rear-end and custom 4-link setup and Airlift bags in all four corners. The rear quarters were widened 4″ to fit some 275’s. Everything on this car was done in Charles’ three bay garage. This was his first build from the ground up, and like most Rat Rods, it continues to evolve. Article by Sarah Darmanjian
