Dua Lipa and Mark Ronson have recorded an episode of Variety’s Behind The Song in which they discussed the making of the huge hit single Dance The Night from the Barbie soundtrack, watch below.

“Barbie completely took over our lives — we were completely Barb-ified,” Dua says in the video. “We were putting post-it notes everywhere, trying to brainstorm what ‘Dance the Night’ was going to be.”
“We rewrote Dance The Night so many times to match the picture,” producer Ronson recently told Variety. “Like, Dua was literally coming up with lyrics — ‘When Margo does that come-hither thing with her fingers [in the scene], that’s when I want to sing “Come along for the ride,’ We actually engineered that song almost like a score.”
Dua made her big-screen debut in Greta Gerwig’s record-breaking movie Barbie earlier this year, while contributing to the film’s soundtrack with the global hit single Dance the Night. Her last album, Future Nostalgia, was released in 2020.
Dua has been suggesting a change of direction for her next album in recent months. Back in August, the singer hinted at a new sound in a new interview with The New York Times Style Magazine.
The singer said that the process of making her third album has been “insular and exciting” and suggested that the album will be influenced by 70s psychedelia, she also suggested that Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker may be on board. “You have no idea what the reaction is going to be once it’s out, so there’s this nervous feeling,” she added.
Recently it was announced that Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish and Ryan Gosling have all been nominated in the Best Song For A Motion picture category at the 2024 Golden Globes for their songs for the Barbie soundtrack.
